Do I want a Siberian Husky?A good Siberian Huksy IS a cute puppy and a beautiful dog, but here are some facts to consider: The Siberian Husky is not a watch dog. Their tempersment is not suitable for guard dog or protection duties, they do not have that fierce loyalty of a "one-man" dog. Siberians are friendly, curious and playful. They enjoy and thrive on attention by humans or other animal friends. They are easily bored. Siberians LOVE to run (and run away), dig and chew. They will test your patience and your stamina. They need regular exercise and LOVING discipline. A firm word and ignoring them is usually all that is needed, but it will be needed more than once. Siberians have a double coat and when they shed the thick undercoat (usually in spring), it may seem like a cotton factory has exploded! Many Siberians like to howl at sirens, other sounds, or to answer other animals. A Siberian Husky may cost from $200 to $1,000 dollars. Siberians should be tested for two genetic problems - cataracts and hip displasia - before breeding and buying (check the parents of the puppy). Siberians are intelligent and fun. They are good companions and love children and adults. They don't require much grooming. They love the outdoors and outdoor sports (sledding, hiking, etc.) and can live outside very happily. They are the most beautiful breed around.
